Club Focus: AFC Telford U12 (Season 17/18)

Benjamin Sohier is the first coach to feature in our Club Focus, sharing his season coaching AFC Telford U12 in the Midland Junior Premier League.

The 2017-18 Season was certainly a valuable experience. We have enjoyed predominant success from a result and developmental point of view.

The group achieved a 66%-win rate, keeping 17 clean sheets from 32 games. During pre-season the group won the prestigious Shrewsbury Town Summer Cup beating the likes of Walsall, Port Vale and Cardiff City. We competed for the MJPL title, ultimately falling short but managed to secure second place. We are very proud of the boys for achieving second place in a largely competitive league setup.

To go one better next season is a definite target – something the players have set themselves. Each player has progressed from September – both as an individual and as a team member.

Myself and Iain are big on desirable behaviours and standards, we feel that, after a couple of early season blips, they are becoming a professional and well-presented group of young men; exemplified by respectful handshakes with coaching staff, parents and players plus being able to shoulder the responsibility of taking their own warm-ups at training and on match day.

We are particularly pleased with their ability to play a multitude of styles; a footballing side who can roll their sleeves up when necessary whether sun, rain or, away to top of the league, in a snow storm.

We have experienced highs and lows throughout the season and that has contributed completely to the learning journey.

We thank the parents for their continued support and dedication – we feel blessed to have such a great group of parents to work with. Special thanks to Simon Lucas for being our Parent Liaison Officer and Match Day official – your willingness to go above and beyond for us and the boys is massively appreciated.

We also thank the players for their complete desire to improve, unwavering commitment and for their wide range of personalities – you make our coaching experience both enjoyable and constructive.

Myself and Iain are very pleased to also announce that we are both going to remain with this group for the 2018-19 season – we cannot wait to get started.

Up the Bucks!
